[JMC] The Enemy of my Enemy: Tournament frame in Repeated Prisioner’s Dilemmas

The tension between selfish behaviour and cooperation is a social dilemma often encountered in ordinary life. We further investigate the topic by studying the effect of framing a competition against another team in a laboratory experiment in which participants will play an infinitely repeated prisoner’s dilemma. In our experiment, we borrow from Dal Bó & Fréchette (2011) the parametrization where cooperation is a possible in a SPE but not a risk-dominant strategy, which is necessary but not sufficient conditions to sustain cooperation. Our aim is to understand if the presence of an opponent team is able to increase the group identity and therefore increase the cooperation between players, leading to a socially desirable outcome, even if, no monetary incentive is given by the tournament. The results of this study conclude that framing competition sustains cooperation over time.

Sara Gil Gallen es Graduada en Economía (2016) por la Universidad Jaime I, y con un Doble título en Master in Economics (2018) por la Universidad Jaime I y Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM, Italia). En noviembre 2018 empezó el Doctorado en Economía Experimental en la Università degli studi di Bari “Aldo Moro” (Italia) bajo la supervisión de Andrea Morone. Su argumento de tesis es el comportamiento cooperativo, y actualmente, se encuentra en el tercer y último año del doctorado. Desde septiembre de 2019 está haciendo un periodo de visitng en la Université Côte d’azur (Francia) bajo la supervisión de Giuseppe Attanasi con él está trabajando no solo en su tesis, sino en otros argumentos de investigación como los eventos culturales y la creatividad siempre desde el proxy de la economía experimental. En enero 2020, se unió al proyecto europeo ANR Green Innovation: Creativity, Risk and Social Context (GRICRIS), Université Côte d’Azur.
